Learning Objectives Define shame and differentiate shame from guilt, embarrassment, and humiliation and be able to recognize shame triggers and how they show up in the body and mind Understand how shame contributes to behaviors, as well as its connection to depression, anxiety, eating disorders, trauma disorders, and substance use disorders Identify main shame categories and common shame responses (Compass of Shame, Nathanson and Shame Resilience Theory, Brown) Define shame resilience according to Brené Brown’s Shame Resilience Theory and understand the four components of shame resilience Learn and practice self-compassion as an antidote to shame and getting unstuck from self-criticism and over-identification with thoughts and feelings (Kristen Neff and Chris Germer's Mindful Self-Compassion Theory)

Speaker Info: Maggie Rose Malone, LCSW is an individual and group therapist, as well as the owner of her solo practice, Rosebud Psychotherapy. A Georgia native, she studied Psychology and Dance at the University of Georgia before attending grad school at Smith College School for Clinical Social Work. Maggie has experience working in community health, crisis response, veterans' trauma recovery, dual diagnosis residential, partial, and intensive outpatient programs. She switched to private practice in 2019 with a focus on Dialectical Behavior Therapy under Dr. Tara Arnold at Wholeheart Psychotherapy before launching her own private practice in 2022. Maggie specializes in working with women and LGBTQIA+ folks on anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, and shame and low self-esteem. While trained from a psychodynamic perspective, Maggie also utilizes Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) in her work with clients. She currently is on the board for the Atlanta Group Psychotherapy Society (AGPS). She is excited to connect with everyone and talk about shame!
